Washington Marine Corps Marathon

Please bear with us as we pull together all event details including hotels and entry!

Pre-register now

The Marine Corps Marathon, takes place around Washington DC, started in 1975. Colonel James L. Fowler decided to create a marathon that promoted goodwill between the military and post-Vietnam community. The event helps to raise money for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and it brings the community together to show the support for the US Marine Corps. The route of the MCM is amazing and it takes in many of Washington’s major monuments.

The People’s Marathon

The Marathon of Monuments

Renowned for the impeccable organisation on a scenic course managed by the US Marines in Arlington, Virginia, and the nation’s capital, the Marine Corps Marathon is one of the largest marathons both in the US and around the globe, bringing in runners from all over the US and over 60 countries world wide! The race is one of the best organised and most enjoyable events you will ever run!

The course runs along many of the iconic national monuments of Washington, D.C.! Indeed the scenic course “marathon of monuments” takes runners past the Washington Monument, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the Pentagon, scenic Potomac River and many more major sights of central Washington D.C. including historic Georgetown.

At the EXPO you can sample nutritious food, try out the latest exercise equipment, test drive technology, explore recovery products and snap motivating selfies. The exhibit floor features sponsors, charities and vendors offering great giveaways, health screenings, literature and selling the latest products. At the EXPO you will also find vendors selling MCM-branded merchandise.

The EXPO is open between the below times (times TBC)

  • Fri – 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Sat – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The rest of your day is then free to explore Washington at your leisure, enjoying the fabulous shops, markets, bars and restaurants.  Take in a sightseeing trip around the amazing city. Free round trip shuttles will run from Eisenhower (yellow) and Van Dorn (Blue) Metro station to the Gaylord National Resort during the Expo hours.

MCM kids run: Today is the day of the MCM Kids Run. Three thousand kids ages 5-12 will participate in the one-mile fun run that also offers a variety of activities at the family fitness called Camp Miles. The one-mile, have-all-the-fun-you-can event features music and entertainment, mascots and medals.

This evening we will hold a pre race marathon briefing where you will be able join your fellow runners for an informal chat.

Marine Corps Marathon, 10k & 50k Race

Marine Corps Marathon has a 7.45am start for wheelchair and hand cycle athletes and 7.55am for runners. The 50k event time is 07.30am. The 10K race details are TBC (although we anticipate a start time of around 8am). Hosted in the nation’s capital, with the start and finish in Arlington, VA; the Marine Corps Marathon is a unique experience that will take you through some of the most recognizable landmarks in the USA. The start line is between the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery, signalling to runners, from the off, that this is no ordinary race experience. The route continues through Rosslyn, before journeying into the District to tour Georgetown and the National Mall on the way to ‘beating the bridge.’ Enter Arlington and pass the Pentagon, tour Crystal City, and finish head uphill, to the finish, at the Marine Corps War Memorial.

After running the fantastic course, return to the hotel before heading out for a well earned celebratory drink in a local bar!
