NEW YORK HALF MARATHON ROUTE
Starting in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, runners head north across the Manhattan Bridge, taking in sweeping skyline views before descending into Manhattan. The route continues up the FDR Drive along the East River, before turning inland through the heart of Times Square, with incredible crowd support, live bands and motivational signs.
From there, participants make their way along 7th Avenue toward Central Park, where rolling hills test the legs in the final stretch. The finish line inside Central Park provides an unforgettable end to a truly world class half marathon experience, and an easy walk to collect race bags.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
Getting to New York
If you’re traveling to the TCS New York City Marathon, you’ll likely arrive through one of the city’s three major airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), or LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Most international flights land at JFK or Newark, while LaGuardia serves mainly domestic routes and is the closest airport to Manhattan.
- From JFK: Take the AirTrain to connect with the subway for around a 60-minute ride into Midtown. A yellow cab from JFK to Manhattan has a flat fare of $70 plus tolls and tip, usually taking 45–75 minutes depending on traffic.
- From Newark: The AirTrain links to New Jersey Transit trains, reaching Penn Station in about 45 minutes. Taxi or rideshare fares range from $70–$90.
- From LaGuardia: Expect a 30–60 minute taxi ride to Manhattan, costing around $40–$60 plus tolls and tip.
Getting around New York
New York’s public transportation is the most convenient way to explore the city during marathon week.
- Subway: Runs 24/7, with 472 stations connecting all five boroughs – making it the fastest and most affordable option for marathon runners and spectators. A single ride costs $2.90, or you can purchase a MetroCard or OMNY tap-to-pay for easy access.
- Buses: Cover routes not served by the subway and also accept MetroCard and OMNY.
- Taxis: For direct trips, yellow taxis and green Boro Taxis are licensed and regulated, while Uber and Lyft are widely available. Walking is another great way to soak up the atmosphere and experience the city’s vibrant neighbourhoods before and after race day.
