Run across ‘the roof of Europe’. The Marathon du Mont Blanc weekend is a veritable festival of trail running in the trail running capital of the world, Chamonix Mont Blanc. Each year spots for the Mont-Blanc Marathon are increasingly popular. A phenomenon that has yet again been confirmed with the 2024 edition. The event is considered as one of the most significant, competitive, beautiful and challenging ultramarathon trail races in the world. We offer guaranteed entry into the 42km, Cross (23km) and 90km events.

A trail-running mecca

23km (Ultra Trail), 42km (Marathon) & 90km (Ultra Trail)

Every year comes the time when Chamonix, the ski capital of France, turns into a trail-running mecca, with a host of different running events on offer. With tough courses and challenging routes, the Mont Blanc Marathon series offers a phenomenal spectacle and unique experience of this wondrous mountain range, rewarding all those who participate with breath-taking views and stunning scenery.

If you’re a fan of trail running then the Marathon du Mont Blanc is the ultimate challenge. The main event covers 42km and climbs over 2,000 metres, this high-altitude race is for the super-fit. Participants can also run longer and shorter distance races over a three-day period: a 90 km ultra-trail, or 23 km Mont-Blanc.

Today is arrival day, please make your own way to the fantastic Alpine resort of Chamonix-Mont Blanc and our hotels.

Mont Blanc 90km

Today is another arrival day.  If taking part in the 90k, you must arrive Thursday morning in order to collect race bib prior to expo close. For those of you who arrived yesterday, after breakfast our rep will take you out for a recce of the area.

Today is the day of the awesome Mont-Blanc 90k which starts at 4am in the morning in the centre of Chamonix. You will be able to take part in today’s Mont Blanc 90k and experience the atmosphere and support from the locals. The Mont-Blanc 90 km features a challenging 6,220 metres of vertical climbing along ridges, over snow fields, and traversing glaciers in a point to point loop. Tonight you are free to sample the restaurants and bars in the town of Chamonix.

The Mont Blanc 23km, starting at 08:00 am on the landing paragliders. Your Sports Tours Representative will hold a race briefing for tomorrow’s main event, the 2024 Marathon du Mont Blanc.

2024 Mont Blanc Marathon (42km)

Today is the day of the Mont Blanc Marathon, starting at 07:00 am in the centre of Chamonix. The Mont-Blanc Marathon – the 42 km course starts in Chamonix and finishes at 2,016m altitude, gathering 2,511m elevation gain and 1,490m on the downhill, this beautiful trail offers some of the best scenery of the Mont Blanc massif.

Compulsory Medical Certificate +

All events in France require you to present a medical certificate from your GP with your entry stating there is no contra-indication to you taking part in a marathon. You will need to obtain the medical certificate and email to Sports Tours International. By visiting Sports Medical Certificates, you can enter your details for an online medical certification. Sports Tours l International can accept no responsibility for failure to comply with this instruction, and no refunds will be given.

Shuttle +

Shuttle bus services from Geneva Airport offer the most appropriate way of getting to Chamonix. The journey between Geneva Airport and Chamonix in nine or 13-seater minibuses takes around 75 minutes.

Bus +

A bus ride from Geneva Airport to Chamonix takes about 2hours 10mins. It is recommended to make prior arrangements for the coach to Chamonix.

Train +

The journey by train from Geneva to Chamonix takes between 2h 51mins and 3h 25mins, depending on connections and the time of day.

The 2024 Mont Blanc 90 km  +

The Mont-Blanc 90 km race has become legendary in the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley. With its 90 km and 6220 meters of vertical, it has been recognised as one of the most technical trail races in France. The 90 km race is difficult but it is also one of the most beautiful! If taking part in the 90k, you must arrive Thursday morning to collect your race bib prior to expo close.

The 2024 Mont Blanc Cross a 23km trail run  +

Starting from the paragliding landing field, the route climbs steadily towards the upper valley, progressively passing through the hamlets of “les Bois” and Lavancher before reaching Argentière (1250m). Runners will pass the village of Argentière and reach Le Planet by the “chemin des rambles”. Then, you will run on a local road, closed for the event, at 500m to go to Montroc. You then arrive in the hamlet of Tré le Champ, a pretty village based right before the Col des Montets, from where you will go via the Balcon Sud. After crossing the magnificent Charlanon comb (1812m) the climb is gentle on a balcony path,with one of the most beautiful views of the Mont-Blanc, to reach Altitude 2000.

The 2024 Mont Blanc Marathon  +

The race starts from the centre of Chamonix. Runners quickly join a trail path, taking them up the mountain via some beautiful villages such as Montroc, Buet, and Vallorcine, near the Swiss border. The Mont-Blanc Marathon continues up the mountain, following scenic routes and through villages too numerous to mention. Highlights include the Tour glacier, the village of Aiguilles Rouges massif, and the amazing views from the finish line at Planpraz.

Does my luggage get transported to my hotel? +

If airport transfers are included in your package, we will transfer you and your Luggage to the hotel. If you are on a cycling holiday, we will also transfer your bike.

Do you cater for children? +

Children are welcome on our trips with the exception of some Hospitality packages.

Can Vegetarians, Vegans or special diets be catered for? +

Any dietary requirements e.g., Vegetarian or Vegan etc needs to be advised to us at booking stage. We will then request the meals with the relevant hotel.

Can I extend my stay along the way? +

Stays can be extended beyond our standard packages subject to availability at the relevant hotel.

How can I pay for my holiday? +

Packages can be paid for online or over the phone by Credit/debit card or Amex, payments can also be made by Bank transfer.

Do I need travel insurance? +

Travel insurance is always advised and is best taken out at the time of making a booking.

What happens if I have to cancel? Will I lose money? +

Cancelation charges are applicable in the event you cannot travel. Please refer to the booking conditions page.

Can I change the date after I’ve booked? +

Subject to amendment fees and hotel availability dates can be changed after initial booking.

Will anyone from your team meet me during my stay? +

Dependent on the trip booked we will have representatives on the package this will be outlined in the individual tour. If we have no representation a 24-hour telephone number will be provided.

Can I travel on my own? +

Yes, we cater for solo travellers, we can offer single rooms or twin share rooms

What is twin to share? +

On many of our travel packages we offer our free ‘Twin to Share’ service where you pay to share a room rather than the supplement for a single room. We encourage single travellers to join our tours and rooms for single occupancy are available on all our tours, but we also offer the opportunity to book our ‘Twin to Share’ service. This option which means that we pair you up with another athlete of the same sex so you can enjoy the event without having to pay the single occupancy supplement.

Is the entry guaranteed? +

All our entries are Guaranteed there is no ballot, lottery or fundraising required once your entry is paid it is guaranteed.

Do I need to pay a deposit? +

A deposit will be required at time of booking to secure your place.

How do I manage a Sports Tours booking? +

Once booked online you will be able to view and make payments on your account.

When will I receive my tickets? +

Itineraries will be sent on all trips around 14 days prior to departure
