BOSTON MARATHON ROUTE
The Boston Marathon route begins in the rural town of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The course continues into Natick and the lively crowds of Wellesley, where runners pass the famous “Scream Tunnel” near Wellesley College. At mile 16, the Newton Hills begin, peaking at the legendary Heartbreak Hill around mile 20.5. From there, the course descends through Brookline and into Boston. The race finishes with a right turn on Hereford Street and a left onto Boylston Street, ending at the Copley Square.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
Getting to Boston:
Shuttle & Public Transport: From Logan International Airport (BOS), take the free Massport Shuttle to Airport Station, where you can board the Blue Line into the city. Transfers are available to the Green Line at Government Centre and the Orange Line at State Street, providing easy access to downtown Boston and the marathon start area.
Taxi & Car: All taxis at Logan Airport are metered. Fares to downtown Boston typically range from $20 – $45 plus tip and tolls, depending on traffic and time of day. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are also widely available for convenient door-to-door travel.
Getting around Boston:
Subway: Boston’s MBTA subway system, known as the “T,” is the fastest way to get around the city during marathon weekend. The Blue Line connects Logan Airport to downtown, while the Green, Orange, and Red Lines provide access to neighbourhoods across the city. Trains run frequently, and weekend schedules are generally reliable.
Bus: The MBTA bus network covers areas not served by the subway. Tickets can be purchased at machines in stations or directly from the driver. Many bus routes run late, making them a convenient option for post-race travel.
Taxi: Taxis, Uber, and Lyft are widely available throughout Boston. Metered fares from downtown to popular marathon areas typically range from $10 – $25 depending on distance and traffic.
Walking & Biking: Boston is a highly walkable city, especially around downtown, Back Bay, and the marathon course. For a scenic option, the Bluebikes rental program offers short-term bike rentals across the city – a fun way to explore neighbourhoods before or after the race.

Itinerary
DAY 1 – ARRIVAL DAY
Please make your own way to the Logan International Airport and meet our Sports Tours International reps at your hotel.
Join the team for welcome drinks on Friday night, a great opportunity to meet your fellow runners and the reps.
DAY 2 – RACE BRIEF & Expo Day!
This morning, Sports Tours are hosting a pre-race briefing to answer any last-minute race day questions you may have.
Sports Tours will escort you to the race expo today. After collecting your race number and registration details from the expo at the Hynes Convention Centre, you have the day to yourself to explore.
Join the Boston Duck tour! Enjoy a full narrated historic tour along the Boston River in a “DUCK” (a vehicle that travels on land and water). You’ll cruise by all the places that make Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts, from the golden domed state House to the Boston Common, the historic North End to fashionable Newbury Street, Quincy Market to the Prudential Tower, before driving into the river to experience the Charles River for a breath-taking view of the Boston and Cambridge skylines.
DAY 3 – shakeout run & Course Tour
Today Sports Tours are hosting a shakeout run this morning, at an easy pace.
Join us for the Boston Marathon Course Tour at 8AM from the Park Plaza for your private journey out to Hopkinton £TBC per person. (Space is limited).
Day 4 – Race day!
Boston Marathon race day! Our Sports Tours Representative will accompany the group from the hotel on Monday morning to the official race bus departure point on Boston Common, just a short walk away from the hotel. We will then be there to greet you on your return and congratulate you on today’s success. Join us for drinks and food at our after party to celebrate your achievement with your fellow runners and our staff.
Day 5 – Departure day
A morning free to finish off your sightseeing and shopping in Boston before flying home.
