Pre-register now

The Athens Authentic Marathon started the running bug for us all! Every runner needs to run the route of the original Marathon; the run of the soldier Pheidippides, who in 490 BC ran from Marathon to Athens to bring news of the victory over the Persians at the Battle of Marathon. The course finishes in the legendary stadium where the first Olympic games of the modern era in 1896 took place, you now have the chance to run this unique and truly memorable marathon route.

Run the route of the original Marathon

Explore the history and culture of this historical country

Following the ‘Original Course’ from the ancient city of Marathon to Athens Olympic Stadium, the marathon offers a historic course that welcomes runners with its various sights along the way, including the Marathon Tomb. After the 26 miles, you will be greeted by thousands of spectators as you cross the finish line in Athens’ breath-taking magnificent Panathinaikos Olympic Stadium.

The city welcomes you with an array of splendid monuments and historical sights. From the temple of Olympian Zeus to the hilltop of Acropolis, with ancient buildings such as the colonnaded Parthenon temple. Athens is also known as a contemporary city and it’s not uncommon for the nightlife hubs of Kolonaki, Psiri and Gazi to stay busy until dawn.
