Who Run The World? Girls! Sports Tours Celebrate International Women’s Day!

Happy International Women’s Day! Today we are taking a moment to recognise and appreciate all of the powerful women we work with, from our inspirational customers and ambassadors like Sally Brider, to our valued partners at Women’s Running UK, and all of the fantastic women who make up #TeamSportsTours.  It was a pleasure to take over 50 runners to the Paris Half Marathon at the weekend with Women’s Running. For many this was their first running event overseas and a significant milestone. We were delighted to see such a strong sense of empowerment and camaraderie, with many solo travellers uniting together with a shared goal of completing 13.1 miles.

Following the success of the recent Paris Half Marathon, Women’s Running editor, Esther Newman, commented: “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than to spend a glorious weekend in the company of brilliant international women! And this is exactly what we’ve just done: we are still riding high after a weekend in Paris with Sports Tours, in the company of 50 podcast listeners (the Pod Squad!), all of us aiming to complete the Paris Half. Most of us had never met before, and many had never run a half marathon – or raced abroad for that matter. But when you gather 50 women together who already know the power of running, what you get is pure joy. The friendship and support of this group from the minute we arrived was overwhelming to witness and be a part of. Lifelong friendships were made over breakfast on the first day! We laughed, we cried, we sang(!) and we ate a lot of croissants. It was a weekend I’ll remember for the rest of my life. And I’m thrilled to say that every single one of us made it over the finish line!”

We are delighted to hear how empowered and fulfilled members of the Women’s Running group felt after running the Paris Half Marathon together, and that we could play a part in bringing an amazing team of women together to experience this event and bond over their shared love for running. We received many heart-warming messages such as:

On top of the world! Feeling so energized and empowered, both by having achieved my goal of running my first half marathon and by spending time with all of you! It has been such a pleasure and joy meeting you all and sharing this incredible experience!” – Jessica.

“Inspiring to be surrounded by so many wonderful women and would love to do it again”.

“Still buzzing after such an amazing life affirming weekend with you fabulous women. Thank you all so much for your support and for the strength and empowerment that we all get through running and especially doing it as part of this community!”

“I feel uplifted and quite emotional!”

“Thank you for such a fabulous weekend. What an experience with such an amazing group of women A special treasure for my memory box!”

“Very proud of myself and privileged to be in the company of such wonderful women, every one of you a Queen! It’s been an emotional life affirming event running in my first half marathon and just what I needed – thank you”.

Amazing! Everyone is super lovely and supportive, and the organisation has been great!” – Laura.

Thank you both for setting this run up; had a great time and it was so lovely to meet so many of the Pod Squad and Cheerleaders.

“Great, really inclusive; good fun; lovely people; great run”.

Sports Tours are proud to help anyone achieve their personal goals – whether that’s taking on an event for the first event or running a sixth World Marathon Major. We will continue to be an advocate for gender equality in running and cycling and challenging stereotypes. There are no boundaries to achieving something incredible!
