HOW TO TRAIN FOR YOUR SPRING MARATHON DURING THE WINTER MONTHS: WITH OUR AMBASSADORS!
With the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon less than a month away and the 2018 Manchester Marathon less than two weeks away, the running bug is taking the U.K by storm and has started to work it’s way into the Sports Tours International office. We are used to taking runners around the world to compete in some of the world’s most iconic races and again this year some of our team are taking on a Spring marathon themselves. Similar to every runner in the U.K, this year has been particularly hard as they have been battling with the elements throughout the winter months, but spring is finally here and we hope the change in seasons brings around a change in weather so we can all start enjoying the outdoors again.
…will be running the 2018 Manchester Marathon on the 8th April 2018.
The 2018 Manchester Marathon will be her 10th marathon and she’s using it as part of her training for the 2018 Ironman Bolton, so for Julie “It’s just about getting the miles in my legs” . Julie hasn’t set a target time but is hoping to be over the line between 4hrs 20 to 4hrs 30 mins. The recent bad weather has certainly been a pain for Julie as it’s has had an impact on all of her training.
After noticing that she was behind on her training and also having realised that her weekends were full of other commitments and events. Julie decided to take some drastic action. So recently Julie has been running twice a day to ensure she doesn’t miss out on that all important “long run”. By squeezing in a quick 6 miler before work and then getting out for 12 miles in the evening, Julie’s training is now back on schedule and her last long run before Manchester Marathon was the Coniston 14 mile road race last weekend.
…will be running the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon
This will be Simon’s first ever marathon although he has previously completed the Coniston 14 in the Lake District (1 hour 59) and the Great North West Half-Marathon (1 hour 48). At this years Virgin Money London Marathon he is hoping to achieve a time under 4 hours and is running for Macmillan Cancer Support. The weather too has been difficult for Simon as he has had to battle severe headwinds and blizzard like conditions as ‘The Beast from the East’ arrived earlier this month, which unfortunately it managed to disrupt his training schedule. Simon is now back on track and running three to four times per week, with his longest run being 18 miles so far. Simon has also made a few changes to his diet, consuming increased amounts of both carbohydrates and protein, especially after long runs and has found chocolate milkshakes to be great at aiding his recovery. Simon has also prepared for his first marathon experience with two podiatrist appointments and a sports massage to ensure his feet and leg muscles are in prime condition.
Good luck to both our runners!
