Tour of Tameside Stage 3 – High Peak Half Marathon Hundreds of runners put on their running shoes today to join us for the third stage of the Tour – a gruelling 13.1 mile half marathon across the borough.
A special memorial race dedicated to PC Nicola Hughes who lost her life in an incident in Tameside took place before the half marathon, which was led by Nicola’s father Bryn.
The 13.1 mile half marathon race started within the Athletes Village before heading onto the scenic Longdendale Trail which is a disused railway line. The route then turned at the far end of the trail near the Woodhead Tunnel where participants returned to the finish once more back in the Athletes Village.
The race finished with an awards ceremony where Bryn Hughes congratulated the winners in front of the runners’ friends and family.
