Tour of Tameside Stage 2- Copley Fell Race
After a fantastic start to the Tour, tonight (Friday) welcomed the second stage of the event which saw hundreds of runners compete in a challenging six mile fell race.
Dr Ron Hill started the race which began alongside Walkerwood Reservoir leading onto Brushes Road. Runners were then directed on the 6 mile course heading towards the fell, which is situated behind Copley Academy and Copley Active Leisure Centre which leads up to the Trigg Point. Once runners reached the top, there was a descent towards the finish besides the leisure centre.
We were joined by Active Tameside who kindly provided access to their facilities for the evening.
Sarah Hudak, from Hyde, who is taking part in the full tour this year for the first time told us:
“I was probably dreading tonight’s race the most as its a tough course but I’m pleased with my results. There’s been a really good turn out and a lot of supporters, it’s a really friendly race.”
We also spoke to Ian Galloway from Stockport who signed up last year but had to pull out due to injury. “I gave my place to my brother last year but now he’s the one injured so can’t take part! I’m taking everyday as it comes but planning on running the full tour. It’s been a great atmosphere so far.”
Now time for a well-deserved rest, before an early start in the morning where our runners will clock up another 13.1 miles in the High Peak Half Marathon.
