Clément Cicuto, our General Manager for Europe has brought astonishing fan experiences to life for 20 years. He caught up with Epic Road Rides to chat through his thoughts on this year’s route and what it takes to deliver an exclusive Tour de France experience like no other.
The Tour de France is the world’s most famous bike race and watching it live is a magical experience. There’s nothing like seeing the icons of the sport at a summit finish or on the streets of Paris. At Sports Tours, we offer packages to key stages of the event from Spectator tours to Ride & Watch tours more info available here. As official premium tour operator, we get exclusive access to the Tour. Our customers can live unique experiences that are normally reserved for the pros such as being able being able to take photos on the podium, access to VIP hospitality areas at the stage starts, finishes and along the racecourse. You can even cycle the race route and cross the finish line ahead of the pros or ride in a Tour de France official car. Our customers always tell us that these experiences make their trip unforgettable.
Each year we try and cover all the key stages of the Tour de France from the Grand Départ to the Finish line. The Grand Départ of the biggest race in cycling is always a must-see event. This year the Tour sets off from Copenhagen. We always offer both a tour for cyclists and hospitality only for our Grand Départ trips. Northern France for Stages 4 to 6 is where we will see the Classic riders desperately trying to win a stage of the Tour and the French Alps which are always extremely popular. This year the Tour goes up l’Alpe d’Huez. Most customers are always particularly focused on going to where the main action happens, so this trip is a particular favourite in 2022. We also offer a Paris one day hospitality ticket where customers will be able to make full weekend break out of it. Our bespoke experiences are available for a small groups or up to 100 people. There are some great options for those that aren’t riding too such as a Tour de France helicopter experience, access to the start village and stage finish or VIP finish hospitality on the Champs Élysées..
Our motto is “our experience makes yours” and we really believe this is true. Every year we bring more than 400 clients to the Tour de France. We have a huge amount of combined knowledge, and as a team we work really hard to make sure that we offer the best tour de France experience on the market. Everything we do is against the backdrop of the weekly calls and meetings we have with ASO. These start in October when the route is announced and continue all the way to the Tour. The route changes each year and it’s thanks to our team’s personal knowledge of the logistics for the Tour that we can secure the centrally located accommodation for our guests. Indeed, we look for hotels that are accessible from international airports, have lots to see around them and good guided ride options. Sometimes we are even able to book our clients into the same hotels as a Tour de France pro team, which is really exciting!
Our clients always tell us that they love the opportunity we provide them to meet other cycling fans from all over the world. Our guides who are on hand throughout the trip are all passionate cyclists who love the TdF and looking after our guests. They undeniably play a huge part in making our guests experiences unforgettable, by delivering a first-class service.
