Our 2.6 Challenge

Earlier this week members of our team at Sports Tours International, Club La Santa UK & Ireland, Sports Travel International, and The Running Bee Foundation participated in the 2.6 challenge to help raise money for charities close to their hearts.

So what is the 2.6 Challenge?

With the Virgin Money London Marathon being postponed, from April 26th to October 4th, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, charities have missed out on millions of pounds of fundraising money, as this particular marathon is the biggest one day fundraiser in the world. The 2019 edition of the race raised over £66 million for charity alone! The idea of the 2.6 challenge is to get as many people as possible active and doing exercise for charity, with a 2.6 theme. This could be anything from 2.6 minutes of exercise to 2.6 hours, 2.6 miles (indoor our outdoor), or even 2.6 times around your garden. The initiative aims to encourage people to do their exercise on April 26th (which would be the original marathon day) and get sponsored, or donate money to a charity of their choice, to help an effort to raise £67 million. More information can be found here

What we did

As we wanted to inspire others to get active and take part, we decided to take the challenge a few days early. We all got our 2.6 in this week. It seems we’re all getting used to exercising at home now and with more and more people relying on different ways to communicate, we thought we’d combine the two. Here’s our 2.6 minutes of exercise, which we did together on a zoom call. You can watch our video below!

Then for the ones who missed round 1 we did round 2!

Some examples of our team’s exercise and their chosen charities;

  • Lewis – I am doing 2.6 minutes of squats with my one year old son and donating to The Samaritans, because in uncertain times like these, people may have more stress and feel the need to talk about their mental health.
  • Rebecca – I am doing 2.6 minutes of sit ups for Derian House. Derian House Children’s Hospice provides specialist care and respite to children and young people with life-limiting or life-shortening conditions.
  • Abby – I’m donating to The Running Bee Foundation as it encourages having an active lifestyle, which aids wellbeing. Having suffered from poor mental health & wellbeing, it’s great to support a charity which works to improve this.
  • Hayley – I am donating to stroke association. We lost my auntie Majorie last week, who had suffered a stroke,  so, as I won’t be able to go to the funeral, I have donated to them in her memory
  • Julie – I am doing weighted squats in the garden and I will donate to the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.  My Dad is one of their volunteers.
  • Claire – I have donated to Captain Tom for the NHS, as I think he is a true gentleman and an inspiration.
  • Kathryn – I am donating to Captain Tom for the NHS charities, as we think he’s amazing.
