Leading Tameside employer New Charter Homes has entered into another two-year partnership with iconic running event, the Tour of Tameside.

Having been an Official Partner in 2015 and 2016, New Charter Homes will again be giving the Tour of Tameside its seal of approval for the 2017 and 2018 editions.
Tony Powell, Deputy Chief Executive of New Charter said: “The Tour of Tameside is a great sporting event that carries a lot of tradition and as we welcome in the New Year, it’s an opportunity for people to set their sights on a new challenge while keeping fit and healthy”.
“There are events for different abilities and we hope that this year’s relay element will encourage more people to give it a go with friends or family. Those wishing to sign up in advance this month will also benefit from early bird offers so the race is already on! ”
New Charter Homes is well known in both Tameside and the North West of the UK as a social landlord with 19,500 homes, a turnover of £100 million and a workforce of around 850 people.

Chris Bird, Chief Executive of Sports Tours International who own and deliver the Tour of Tameside commented, “We are delighted to welcome on board again for another two years New Charter Homes. The Tour of Tameside is an event that incorporates so many areas of the local community – it perfectly fits our objectives of getting the borough on the move as well as New Charter being leaders in community engagement and continuing to build great neighbourhoods for great people”.

The 2017 event will begin with Stage 1 the ‘X-Trail 10k’ on Thursday evening the 15th of June in Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks in Ashton before moving onto Stage 2, on Friday evening the 16th of June, the infamous ‘Hell on the Fell’ in Copley, Stalybridge will take place.
Stage 3 is Saturday morning the 17th of June where runners will take on the 13.1 mile ‘Hero Half Marathon’ along the Longendale Trail before the final day, Stage 4 on Sunday the 18th of June where the Tour will finish with the classic ‘Dr Ron 7’ (formerly know as the Hyde 7 and now named after the founding father of the Tour of Tameside Dr Ron Hill MBE) – a seven mile road run where many friends and family will line the route to welcome the competitors home.

The Tour recognises that not all runners wish to run all four days back-to-back, so Sports Tours International have again opened up ‘Single Stage Entries’ for those wishing to run one, two or three of the individual days. The option encourages beginners and those who wish to run shorter to still become a part of the Tour of Tameside.
