Meet Abigail Q&A

Introducing..

This week we speak to Abi, Finance Assistant.

What is your full name?

Abigail Caroline Keefe

What brought you to Sports Tours?

I was coming to the end of what I could learn in my previous role and found that my studies were not really benefitting me as much as I hoped, as I wasn’t able to use my knowledge and put things I had learnt into practice.

Talk us through a typical day in your role.

A big portion of my month is taken up by month end accounting – where we essentially get together all the costs and revenue received which relate to events which have occurred in that month, to give us an overview of how much contribution we have made per event. As there are many ways for customers to pay us or for us to pay suppliers, it requires lots of report downloads and spreadsheets to store the information so we get to the figures we need. As Sports Tours is constantly growing, evolving and creating more event packages for clients, each month is getting bigger and takes longer to prepare. I also chase any receipts outstanding on company credit cards (which is sometimes like banging my head against a brick wall!)and generally help out Amanda and Tom with anything which they need me to look at.

What exciting things have you been up to in Finance recently?

Tom is currently working to get us up on Sage, which will be really exciting once it is in place, as it will make month end a lot more streamlined and efficient. We have also just set up the new purchase order and expenses system for The Running Bee Foundation. We also have the snack jar if anyone wants to visit us J

Any plans for your future at Sports Tours?

I’m keen to get out to the Sports Travel office to see how things function there. I hate being bored so it’s great that so much is happening with Sports Travel and also with our charity, The Running Bee Foundation. In 2020 I hope to get out to some of our running and cycling events and see firsthand the experience that Sports Tours provides to our clients.

Funniest memory of life in the office?

When I stapled my fingers together, although can that really be classed as funny? Maybe to others!

Book, podcast or TV show?

Definitely a book! I love reading, from Cosmo to Coraline to Canterbury Tales, there’s nothing better than being immersed in a thrilling read.

Favourite quote?

The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me. It’s paraphrased from a book called The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. I find it reflects my mindset well.

Truth or dare?

Dare! What is life without a little fun?
