Family take on the 10k together!

We are always on the hunt for interesting stories about our runners and this is too good not to share! Guy and his family decided it was time to get off the sofa and into a pair of running shoes!

We caught up with Guy recently about why he and his family are returning to our races in 2017 “As I was turning 40 this year and was sick of sitting on the sofa getting fat, we  decided last year that we wanted to get fitter and spend more time doing things as a family. We discovered that we are all a little competitive and though we wont be breaking any speed records, we are very keen to beat the other family member’s, bragging rights are more important that the medals in our house!

We decided Worsley woods parkrun was a good starting point.

Once however we realised we could actually make it round without ending up in a heap on the floor we decided to try a 10k. Me and my son Jordan  signed up for the UKFast City of Salford 10k and as it was raising money for the Christie Charity who have treated my bother in the past, we gained a few sponsors. It wasn’t lots, but anything helps!

In October we ran the Merseyside 10k but dragged a few extra people along to that one. So altogether we had; me, my wife Becky, my son Jordan,  my other son Connor, my uncle Guy, friend Danny and Jordan’s friend Gareth – so seven of us all in total!

Since then we have ran several other runs but honestly found Sports Tours International to be the best. I dealt with Race Director Graham Jackson, who is a lovely bloke. He took the time to deal with all  of my questions even going as far as getting me a signed top from the legend that is Dr Ron Hill MBE. I received fantastic customer services which was one of the reasons I couldn’t wait to book our places for the Dr Ron Hyde 7, UKFast We Love Manchester 10k and the UKFast City of Salford 10k this year.”

We are really looking forward to welcoming Guy and his family along to our races in 2017! If you would like to the Thompson Family, check our our UK running events here >
