Double Gold Olympian Joanna Rowsell Shand signs for Team Sports Tours International

Following yesterday’s announcement that Joanna Rowsell Shand has called time on her illustrious Great Britain cycling career, Jo has confirmed today that she will become a worldwide ambassador for one of the World’s leading mass participation sports tour operators.

Manchester based Sports Tours International is owned by bookmaking and gaming giant Fred Done. Founded in 1973 Sports Tours International specialise in cycling, running and training camps throughout the world which include partnerships with the event owners of Le Tour de France, and the Marathon Majors in New York, Berlin, Tokyo, Boston, London and Chicago.

Commenting on the ambassador role Joanna Rowsell Shand said
“Retiring from competitive cycling was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made, however the opportunities in front of me with Sports Tours International and their other active leisure brands have presented me with a very exciting future.”

Jo will also carry out ambassadorial roles for leisure cycling brand FreeWheel Holidays and the World’s number one warm weather sports and active leisure resort Club La Santa in Lanzarote, which are both part of the Sports Tours International group offering.

Sports Tours International and Jo Rowsell Shand’s first project together will see the double Olympian take on one of the toughest sportives on the planet; the Etape du Tour on July 16th which is the 18th stage of Le Tour de France. The 178km event will start in Briancon and finish on the Col d’Izoard. Jo will be the first ever female track Olympian to take on the toughest stage of Le Tour.
