And the Tour of Tameside comes to a spectacular finish!

Tour of Tameside Stage 4 – Hyde 7′

The fourth and final stage of the Tour of Tameside did not disappoint this morning, as we welcomed hundreds of runners who took to the streets for a 7 mile road race through Hyde.

The atmosphere was brilliant as runners lined the streets outside the Hyde Town Hall. The 7 mile road race went straight up Market Street before turning left onto Stockport Road. The route then went past the Ken Ward Leisure Centre in Hattersley and left onto Mottram Road. Then onto Grange Road near Hyde F.C and past Hyde Leisure Pool, before runners turned back onto Market Street where they were greeted by cheers and applause of all the spectators who came to show their support.
We spoke to John Fellows from Willow Wood Hospice, our official partner for Saturday and Sunday’s race, who told us: “It’s a wonderful community event and to be part of such an iconic event is great. We had runners competing across different stages of the four day event and have raised thousands for Willow Wood.”

First to cross the finish line was Mohammed Aburezeq and the men’s overall champion of the 2016 Tour of Tameside. Mo, who also took last year’s winning title, said: “The extra day was tough! The fell race was the most challenging but today was great, and i really enjoyed the half marathon yesterday.”

Today’s winning female and overall female Tour winner for the second year running is Kirsty Longley. Kirsty told us her times were faster this year, despite their being an extra stage! “I was faster running four stages, it was more of a challenge but I was able to push myself so I preferred that. The atmosphere has been amazing, the fell race was tough but I gave it my best shot!”
